ActivTrak vs Horaflow: Workforce Analytics or Time Tracking? (2026)

ActivTrak and Horaflow look similar from the outside — both are agent-based, both have dashboards, both surface productivity data. They're actually solving different problems.

ActivTrak is workforce analytics for compliance-heavy enterprise: heavy dashboards, anomaly detection, alarms, behavioural risk scoring. Horaflow is operational time tracking for SMBs: clock-in, attendance, screenshots, project hours.

Picking wrong wastes ~$10K/year. Here's how to pick right.

TL;DR

Pick ActivTrak if you're a 500+ person enterprise with HR + IT + compliance officers who need a workforce analytics platform — not just time tracking. The dashboards, alarms, and risk scoring are built for those teams.

Pick Horaflow if you're an SMB (10–500 people) that needs day-to-day time tracking, attendance, screenshots, and project hours. ActivTrak is overkill at this size, and ~5× more expensive.

Different products, similar surface

ActivTrak's positioning is "workforce analytics" — they sell to HR, IT security, and compliance leaders at companies with formal monitoring policies. The product reflects that: heavy dashboards on team productivity benchmarks, app/site usage trends, anomaly detection (e.g., flag a user who suddenly accesses sensitive folders), and behavioural risk scoring.

Horaflow's positioning is "operational time tracking" — we sell to operations leaders, agency owners, and CTOs at SMBs who need to know who's working when, on what, for how long. The product reflects that: attendance, leaves, project hours, screenshots, productivity scoring as a single number per user per day.

The agent overlap is real, but the buyer is different and the dashboards are different.

Pricing

ActivTrak has a free tier (3 users, basic features). Paid: Essentials $10/user/mo (basic productivity), Professional $15/user/mo (full workforce analytics), Enterprise custom.

Horaflow: Starter $125/mo (100 users), Team $250 (200 users), Business $500 (500 users). Flat, no per-seat math.

Where ActivTrak wins

  • Workforce analytics depth — dept-level productivity benchmarks, behavioural risk scoring, anomaly detection that flags unusual activity patterns.
  • Compliance + audit story — SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA-ready features, comprehensive audit logs. Better procurement story for regulated industries.
  • SSO / SAML on Professional plan — easier integration into enterprise identity platforms.
  • Agent runs in stealth mode (configurable) — not visible to end users.
  • Mature enterprise sales motion — they have a real implementation team and security review process.

Where Horaflow wins

  • Cost. ~5× cheaper at every team size; ~12× cheaper at 500 users.
  • Built-in attendance and leave management — ActivTrak is monitoring-only, no clock-in.
  • Real screenshots out of the box — ActivTrak focuses on metadata; visual proof requires extra setup.
  • Project + task tracking with a Kanban board — ActivTrak has limited project tooling.
  • Faster onboarding — install, invite, see data in 10 minutes vs ActivTrak's typical multi-week enterprise rollout.
  • No per-seat lock-in — flat pricing means adding people doesn't hurt.

Verdict

✅ Verdict

If you're buying for HR + compliance + IT security at a 500+ person regulated enterprise — ActivTrak. If you're buying for ops + project ownership at a 10–500 person SMB — Horaflow. They overlap on the agent, but the buyer is different.

Frequently asked questions

Is Horaflow an ActivTrak alternative?

For most buyers, yes — Horaflow does the productivity tracking + activity monitoring most teams actually use ActivTrak for, at a fraction of the price. For compliance-heavy enterprises that specifically need anomaly detection, risk scoring, or SOC 2-grade audit trails, ActivTrak is still the better fit.

Does Horaflow have anomaly detection like ActivTrak?

Not in the same depth. We surface idle alerts, off-hours activity, and clock-in anomalies, but we don't do behavioural risk scoring or "this user's pattern just changed" alerts. If that's a hard requirement, ActivTrak is built for it.

Can ActivTrak do attendance + leaves like Horaflow?

No. ActivTrak is workforce analytics — they monitor activity, not attendance. You'd typically pair ActivTrak with a separate HR/payroll tool. Horaflow bundles both, which is why we're cheaper to run for SMBs.

Will my CFO accept Horaflow over ActivTrak from a procurement standpoint?

Probably yes for SMBs (under 500), probably no for compliance-heavy enterprise. Horaflow doesn't yet have SOC 2 Type II certification (on roadmap), which is a hard requirement for many regulated industries. If your CFO requires it, stick with ActivTrak.

Does ActivTrak take screenshots?

Not by default — ActivTrak focuses on metadata (apps, websites, time spent). Screenshot capture is configurable but not the headline feature. Horaflow ships screenshots on by default with random intervals.
